Anti Woke – Awaken your mind not your outrage!
My art project, “Anti Woke,” serves as a bold declaration from middle-aged white men who are collectively drawing a line in the sand.
This project embodies a growing sentiment among this demographic that enough is enough.
While there's a sincere desire to avoid offense and promote understanding, there’s also a strong need to reclaim the right to live freely and authentically without the constant fear of stepping on the toes of those who may be overly sensitive.
The artworks captures this struggle, showcasing figures that embody resilience and defiance, urging viewers to recognise that it’s possible to engage with the world in a meaningful way without being shackled by the weight of societal expectations.
The “Anti Woke” project challenges the prevailing culture of hyper-sensitivity, asserting that middle-aged men deserve the opportunity to enjoy life, express themselves, and share their perspectives without the looming threat of backlash. It speaks to the frustration of feeling misunderstood and unfairly characterised as relics of a problematic past.
Through this art, I aim to foster a dialogue that emphasises the importance of humour, camaraderie, and the right to celebrate life’s pleasures, reminding us all that laughter and joy are universal experiences that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background.
This project not only asserts a sense of identity but also invites others to reflect on the balance between sensitivity and the freedom to express oneself authentically.
